Lap, I couldn't agree more.
The Sens are 10 years old. I find myself wondering more and more what teams the Sens fans were fans of before the Sens. And if they were fans of another team, why did they turn their backs on the team they supported most of their lives?

Probably the same plethora of fans that were found in the mid-west Canada before Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver came along Montreal Cdn, Boston or of course, our favourite team the Toronto Maple Leafs  my guess is, they finally had a team of their own, and had to show Hamilton why THEY didn't deserve to have a team, so they came...or Bryden bribed them, and that's why he's in debt. You'd have to pay me 1 million too to support THAT team. ;D |

Ladies, the situation in Ottawa has nothing to do with the fact it is the capital, imo.
If there was any potential of politics being involved you would have seen the gov't throw money at Quebec for the Nords. That would have been a "Canadian" political move.
I believe in general the Ontario gov't's motives are pretty much up front. They are a "helping business" type of gov't, which doesn't always sit well with the general populace. In this case it is my disgust with the NHL and the Sens that have me not wanting to see the gov't bail them out.
The whole Sen's history is very interesting if you go right back to Firestone, he was the guy who screwed it all up originally.

You know, I am so sick of hearing the excuse that the Corel Centre is so far out of town and only accessible if you drive, etc, etc ( you telling me that no one is running tour and shuttle buses out there? right.).
If MLSE had built the new ACC in Orangeville or Uxbridge or whereever, Leaf games would still sell out AND they'd probably still be able to charge whatever the heck they wanted. Really ... what is the difference between people driving into Toronto for a game or people driving out of Toronto for a game? Many fans drive one or two hours just to get to the game. We lived in the northwest corner of the city and my Dad still drove into the Gardens to work at every game ... that's a good 45 minute commute.
Where or how far the arena is has very little influence on real fans. (note how many Toronto fans drove hours last year to catch PO games in Carolina) This is just another excuse in a long line of Ottawa excuses.
The fact of the matter is that Ottawa bandwagoners have been unable or unwilling to support their team and now expect the taxpayers, through the government, to bail them out. No wonder Canadian Westerners hate us in the East.
If the Ottawa Senators welfare squad win the cup this year, it will be the end of hockey as I have always known it. At least in my eyes. My cynical side will break free and assume that "the fix was in".

They wack, wack, wack here, and wack, wack, wack there, and they get like not even 1/3 of the whistles. and if this team does win it, you have to point out, they didn't meet a "real" team in the playoffs. They met the Islanders, a very tired Flyers, and a awesome Brodeur. that's it. I'm not saying the Leafs are the real team, but there is a reason why the Leafs beat this team three times in a row. There has yet to be a team to match the intensity that the Sens have given, and I think, w/a healthy Leaf team (healthy going in, and healthy meeting the sens), it would be a doozie of a game. but we got eliminated and the Sens get an easy ride. this is so not fair. |

The Sharks had a terrible season and they didn't sell out many games. They couldn't give away comp tickets near the end of the season, but in spite of that, attendance wasn't down that much. The Shark Tank only holds 16,496 for hockey games. Most of the seats were taken the entire season. It never seemed like there were more than 1,000 or at the most 2,000 seats empty. Work, Home and the Shark Tank are sort of in a triangle for me. The Tank is 9 miles from both work and home for me. The Sharks have fans that drive down from Sebastepool and Sacramento. Sebastepool, which is North, is a 2 1/2 or 3 hour drive 1 way for those fans. Sacramento, which is East, is 2 1/2 hours one way for those fans. Distance is a poor excuse for Sens fans not going to games. Fans drive the distance without griping if they really are fans.
