I just heard (9 am east.) on Headline Sports that Svehla's agent is sick/tired of his player being used as an excuse for the Leafs not doing anythng this summer. He said that they gave the Leafs various options to move on including one that had the Leafs buy out his contract to allow him to be a UFA!! They even said that Bill Watters had a long-term deal set up to keep him in town. It was also said that Svehla may not decide his ultimate fate until Oct/Nov!! I get the feeling that he's tryin' to force mgmt into letting him go free so he can play with somebody else this fall but who can you believe in all this foolishness?? I don't believe in mgmt either but this is certainly interesting. (Maddening might be a better word.) slam.canoe.ca/Slam030709/nhl_tor1-sun.html

this is the real question and your guess is as good as mine but I'm on the side that says management is looking for a scapegoat to excuse their lack of direction and overall inability to get the job done. This foolishness has beeen going on for many many seasons and while the whole story regarding svehla being an idiot for not making up his mind is true their is no way in hell its the reason for the leafs lack of initiative in the FA market. every season that passes this team seems to be trying a different path to get to the holy grail while other teams pick a path and stay the course until it works. STABILITY is not part of the vocabulary here.

see technically he can't do that.
he needs to show up FOR training camp for his contract to be upheld. he can't show up in the middle of the season with no legitmate reason to waltz in (this isn't like arbitration; this was a part of his contract that HE agreed to).
if he shows up in November, and the Defense Who Has Two or Three NHL Calibre Defenseman and 6 Rookies are playing well; what do you do? tell Bell, or Coliaviacovo; "sorry. you made the team and all, because you had the common courtesy to come to training camp because no matter how stupid we are you are loyal to this team, but because this selfish a s s decided he wants to play somemore, you have to leave?"
or worse yet, how about if it is someone that he signed.
this is interesting
"We're being made out as the villains in the black hats on black horses who are handcuffing the Leafs, and that's not right," Winter said. "We're open-minded to deal with this. We can agree to part company and let Robert walk away. If they want the no-trade clause waived and trade his rights, that's another option. There are a number of creative things we can do.
"(The Leafs) are the ones who haven't called us back." [/b]
Okay.
he's right. sort of.
but wasn't Quinn the one who PERSONALLY called Svhela and begged him to come back, and Svhela said no? and wasn't the leafs the organization said sign the papers or offically say you are NOT coming back this year, or come back, and be definate about it; and svhela is the one who is waffling?
Svhela can not be the ONLY excuse because we all know they do not want to spend the money; however Svhela's nose is not clean in this one, it is just as dirty as Penny and Quinn's.

I just heard (9 am east.) He said that they gave the Leafs various options to move on including one that had the Leafs buy out his contract to allow him to be a UFA!! Now that's a hoot, if the Leafs did not exercise thier team option Svhela would have been a UFA automatically. Despite Svhela saying he was retiring, the Leafs exercised their option to prevent him from becoming a UFA and having a Berard situation. Now his agent is saying the Leafs can buy him out from the Leafs option so he can become a UFA. Sounds to me like ENRON type accounting. The agent, Winter, should be shot for out and out lying !!!!!!

Wehter it is his fault or not I am so sick and tired of hearing about Robert Svhela. Like a fly at a picnic I wish he would just go away!! Retire already. By him out so he can be a UFA? Who does he or his agent think he is. He is a decent defensman but he was no Norris Trophy candidate this year. I thouth the D was no better or no worse with him back there. End this stupid saga Leafs. Send Rick Ley over to Svhelas country (so Rick can earn some of his pay) and have him sign on the dotted line "I retire" .

I guess Svehla's Agent is so stupid he doesn't remember we know why Svehla was qualified. I agree, he should be shot for lying. Svehla wasn't anything special and he wasn't that great an improvement over Yushkie (as you said, decent). I too wish the whole Svehla Soap Opera would end NOW. LOL!! Well since Ley can't improve the Leafs defense worth a darn, that might be a good job for him. That's about all he really is capable of doing. ;D
