I'll admit I went to bed after 40 to get in some reading and much needed sleep. It was actually my buddy in Portugal who messaged me with the news of the OT.
Stealing a point (just like in the Isles game) could be very handy but playing with frantic desperation is never a good sign for a team.

I wonder what the Vegas odds were of scoring five to get to overtime? Samsonov beat high glove so it was truly not a good night for him. Least the boys fought back still a point in a game that was absolutely a stinker. Shows you how horrible goaltending can very quickly kill you. I know the Leafs can score goals in bunches, but I didn't figure they could come back from five down in one period. Having done that I wish they could have finished it off with the win, but I guess one point in this game was a miracle. The boys had quality chances and I was sure one was gonna go in which would have certainly been the game of the year. Jones needs to get the net for the next while. Sammy has been lost just about every start and Jones is a veteran guy so he can adjust quickly.

I admit I turned it off after it was 5-0. The way they were playing I was shocked they came back. Sammy was not good and Gerard is right. Jones needs to get a little run. Sammy seems uncomfortable and is fighting every puck. You combine that with a porous defense that gives the puck away and you get 5-6 opposing goals. What makes it worse is we soundly defeated a very good Rangers team 2 nights earlier in their building and then this performance against a bottom feeder.

No one angry in post game dressers. Poor team defense I guess is accepted. Still got that loser mentality.
Reeves will be out a while I heard.

And that, imo, is the biggest culprit even over the defence/goalie issue by far. The inconsistent play is an issue that never goes away. No one angry in post game dressers. Poor team defense I guess is accepted. Still got that loser mentality. Reeves will be out a while I heard. Same people...same issues. Mgmt has gone with only one plan since this core was drafted so shame on them for sticking their heads in the sand over and over. Watching the passion in their faces when they tied it up was terrific but its also sad bc we all know theyre not built for the p/offs. Tough to get excited for G1. Yeah Reeves' injury was so weird it didnt seem real.

What a totally unacceptable performance last night. I see people saying well at least we got one point. I look at it differently the leafs a far better team threw away a point becuase they should have won the game easily not be in panic mode scambling from being down by 5 goals.
Another observation I see people demanding the leafs trade for a defenceman. How would trading for one defenceman help they need at least 2, but 3 would be even better. Then there’s the 3rd and 4th lines. Do you really think the leafs are going on deep playoff run with these lines.
No, this team is destine to make the playoffs, then meekly bow out in the first round of the playoffs to be follow by the firings of Brendan Shanahan and Sheldon Keefe.

you are correct there, Finn. I don't see it as much as earning a point of stealing a point. Just another game where we let the inferior team overpower us, but we have seen that story so many times. I don't expect any trades except the usual stuff at the deadline because we have so few assets but that is also a story we have seen many times before. Just frustrating as hell.

I’m with you guys on this. Another wasted opportunity. And we hear the same BS from the coach and players as they really had to give maximum effort in the 3rd period to salvage a point. How about giving maximum effort for the first and second period and put an inferior team away early? They’re a Jekyyl and Hyde team, plain and simple.

Maybe the worst thing of all is that we have been seeing this for the last eight years. Same excuses after losses and the same passive reaction from everybody on the team. The first few years you could blame it on inexperience but after that, there's no excuse. Shanahan has really dropped the ball building this team. No major changes in eight years and every season we go to the trade deadline hoping for a miracle.

He's a perfect example of a good/great hockey player not necessarily making a good hockey executive. His contract I believe ends after this season and must not be renewed.

I never could figure Shanahan out. He was a hard nosed player in his day and for the life of me I can't understand why he allowed Dubas to build such a soft team. It's fair enough to say he wasn't President material, but building toughness into this club should have been in his DNA.

Might as well had given that job to Wendel Clark. He has no management experience but at least he bleeds blue and white.. although that probably wouldn't have worked either.
