The Leafs beat CBJ on December 23rd, 4-1. CBJ will probably be ready for revenge. Hopefully, the Leafs win again. Report yesterday is Samsonov in net tonight. Even though I have doubts about him, better tonight than tomorrow with the Canes.

You knew he had to start one of those games regardless. Hearing that Gio is back brings some experience. Every little bit helps our back end for sure.

Need the boys to block shots, clear the front of the net, clear the zone efficiently. Sammy better snap out of this cause Woll is still an easy month away it sounds. When you think of the injuries the Leafs have had on D and Woll and Sammy’s horrible goaltending this team has hung in there. Still no excuse to lose to inferior opponents though. Every season there is an easy 15-20 points tossed out the window because they didn’t outwork a lesser team.

Have to believe the only reason Samsonov is still a leaf is because they are scared of losing him to waivers while Woll is hurt. Jones is on emergency call up and the Leafs don't have cap room to bring up Hildeby unless they make another move elsewhere. Long term I believe Woll/Jones are the pair to finish the season and go into the playoffs. For now we just have to keep watching football game scores every time Samsonov gets the net.
Interesting rumor out there today of Nylander for Weeger. Initially didn't like this move but Weeger is a top pair RHD who is signed for 8 years at a reasonable 6.5.
If you believe this year's leafs are just another version of the same old the leafs we've watched not compete in the playoffs and need to make some changes,
and you believe that Nylander is walking for nothing at the end of the year, and that the leafs will use that cap space to sign a top dman,
This rumor starts to make a lot more sense.
Bringing in a guy like Weeger to play beside Reilley really changes the defenses outlook.
Now you can move Brodie over to his natural left side and limit his exposure to defending top players, playing beside Liljegren and then drop Mccabe down to shore up the third pair

Nylander for Weeger and what else. I have liked Weeger for years now, he's a tough no nonsense guy, but no way this is a straight one for one trade. Make it Weeger and Calgary's first round pick and maybe, just maybe the leafs should think about it. One real concern I would have is his age, he turns 30 Jan 7 and will be 37 at the end of the contract, one wonders just how good he'll be as the contract ages.

Do you think they could trade Sammy at the deadline? Hopefully Woll is healthy by then. Take whatever you can get for him and free up some cap?

If he tanks again i'd use Kermit the frog as a back-up. As for Weegar I dont know much about him but I know our mgmt and they dont have the guts to do anything drastic. They'll let him walk instead. |

Unfortunately I can't see any team so desperate for goal tending they would trade for Samsonov. Experienced goalies with some playoff experience might be enough. Just a rental backup. Might get a late round pick?? |

Why can't Jones play back to back nights, do not understand why they keep starting this guy. Other teams have their goalies playing every night , I just don't get it .
