Just a couple of thoughts on the Reilly incident. First I didn't realize it was a thing that you can't shoot hard into an empty net. I've been watching hockey for many decades and I've seen a lot of ugly attacks and all kinds of massive brawls, but I don't remember them starting over something like this. Maybe someone has a memory of this happening. Secondly the whole thing could have been avoided if the Leafs had simple put forth some effort and won the D**M game. Plus it's beyond stupid for Reilly to take himself out of action for the next 3-5 games(?).

Well there is no rule saying you can’t do whatever you want into an empty net but there’s an unwritten code among players. It’s like shooting the puck into the net after the whistle is blown. It’s like skating onto the opponents half of the ice during pre game warmup. You don’t do it unless you want repercussions. I am 100% in favor of what Rielly did. I don’t care if he gets 10 games. This season is a write off anyways. Even Giroux had a hard time explaining what his teammate did. That was just a bush league act by whatever that nobody’s name was.

I can't agree with you on that one TMan. If Reilly had dropped his gloves and fought him, that's fine by me, no harm done. What he chose to do was irresponsible and put the team in a difficult position. It pi**es me off when Marchand put Lillegren out of action for 2 months, not one Leaf felt it was necessary to go after him, but apparently shooting too hard into an empty net was the bridge too far. I don't know, it's just been a frustrating season and losing to the Sens again was like one more kick in the gut.

I’m just glad he showed some kind of push back. It doesn’t happen near enough with this team. I think a high stick to the head will make that pos Sen think twice about a move like that again more than a wrestling match would. To each his own they say.

Not looking good for Morgan Rielly, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has offered an in-person hearing for him. The in-person hearing gives the Department of Player Safety the option to suspend Rielly for more than five games.

I also think Morgan should have dropped the gloves instead of the high stick. I have rewatched that hit several time and finally did see his stick roll up after 1st contact. The in-person interview gives the NHL department of player safety the ability to suspend Morgan 8 to 10 games. Since he has never been suspended before that might save him, but AM was suspended 3 games when other players only got 1 game for the identical infraction, so who knows. Maybe the NHL DofPS will also see his stick roll up and not suspend him that long. There was absolutely no reason for Greig to slapshot into the empty net. All he had to do was tap it and it would have gone into the net. What was he trying to do? Be noticed? Trying to look like a cool player? Idiot hotdogger!? Hotdogger: Person who performs ostentatiously or flamboyantly. A showoff. Greig is an idiot as*h*le. I don't blame Morgan for getting angry, but it wasn't worth an 8 or 10 game suspension. How we are in 2nd place, albeit barely, is a miracle. We deserve so much better bc watching this group fail to compete is the biggest sin of all. Every team exploits the 85% of this line-up every night and thats all on mgmt. As TMan said "Trouble is if you feed the other 15 players peanuts, you get what you pay for." Gerard, I'm curious to see where you saw the Leafs at 2nd, because when I checked NHL.com it still shows the Leafs at 4th in the division and 1st Wild Card.

Pam, you are correct. I think I had the NHL website open but hadn't refreshed it for many days so when I looked at it again the standings were way off.
As for Rielly he will prob. get five games or more to set an example to the rest of the league that they won't favour us. Its a shame because he's a good guy and the fact that our team is falling off the map just makes it even worse.
