Bad loss to take, all because of sloppy play. Sammy definitely had an off night, hopefully it was a one off.
Marner has unbelievable talent, but he tries too be way to fancy for my liking. He’s always played like this, looks great when his behind the back and no look passes work, but far too many dicey plays. Domi looks much better with Matthews imo.
It’s one game, too close to playoffs to have this type of game, but it is one game?

Me too Stu. Normally a bit more optimistic but this game was a disgrace. Maybe we outshot them but Sammy was average at best, had no help. Edmundson was a pylon on the last goal. Disjointed all over the ice. I hate this team on nights like this.

One thing I will say is I hope they're sign Domi.

Well they regressed big time to a lot of bad habits. Basic stuff. Bad giveaways and Sammy was not good. All Edmundson had to do was throw a check on that game winner but he let Bratt scoot by. Our PK was horrendous. Giving up 3 PP goals this time of year? I have zero faith going into the playoffs. Just when I start to feel good about this team they kick me in the face and make me see reality. I'm not excited, I’m bummed out.

Sheldon Keefe Post Game, Devils 6 vs. Leafs 5: “We didn’t play as bad of a game as the score shows, but these things happen, especially at this time of year… We’ll move on”
What game was he watching?

He is a dope. Looking forward to a new voice behind bench next season. That team last night gets swept.

I call it playing out the string, but the bad habits definitely need to be corrected. Nylander looked like he was just out for skate and barely engaged in any play, offensively or defensively. Marner looks rusty, I hope that shakes off soon...
Both Brodie and Gio with primary assists on NJ goals. Ugh!
New Jersey was playing for next year after already being eliminated from playoff contention by the Leafs on Tuesday. While the Leafs did have an opportunity to shoot for home ice in the playoffs, this loss removes that carrot from their game.

Defense suspect and special teams floundering, lacklustre goaltending and there’s 3 games to go before playoffs. Keefe has a lot of bodies on D but how many of them can be counted on? Florida must be licking their chops. I guess they could get their 💩 together and play better but it might only last for one or two games and they’ll sh*t the bed again.

Too much messy, poorly coordinated play in their end and Samsonov was awful! My confidence in the Leafs goaltending for the playoffs isn’t particularly high and Sammy’s performance did nothing to boost it. Confidence has always been a rather fragile thing for Sammy so let’s hope he has a strong game in his next outing. And his next outing should be in the Leafs next game. At this late point Keefe should know that he can’t just leave Sammy stewing over his poor performance. Get him back in the net as soon as possible and see if he can bounce back and not get into another confidence crisis. If he falters again then give Woll the final two games and see how he performs. It’s not a reassuring thing that with just three games left it’s still not clear who their starting goalie for the playoffs will (should) be.
Given their poor play, the Leafs certainly didn’t need Domi to then take such a stupid, costly, unnecessary penalty. AM is a big, strong guy who can take care of himself and Domi’s response to that particular incident seemed excessive and unwarranted. It seemed that Domi was just trying to score some extra brownie points with the coach. Before the playoffs begin Keefe better give Domi a strong lecture about taking stupid penalties. Note also that Domi’s penalties interfered with the Leafs’ work on establishing their playoff line combinations because the forwards had to be shuffled around to cover for his lengthy absence from the game.

He is a dope. Looking forward to a new voice behind bench next season. That team last night gets swept. He sure is Jim. I’m sick of his act. To pass it off as “these things happen this time of year” and to think “we didn’t play as bad a game as the score suggests” is just foolish. Well stated! A game like this leaves one with the impression of seeing a team that isn’t particularly well coached. If such poor games occur only very occasionally then they can reasonably be dismissed as the team merely having the odd, atypically bad game. But such isn’t the case with the Leafs. There are obvious inadequacies in their overall team game, most significantly with their play in their own end. I’ve never been particularly impressed with Keefe and have always felt that the Leafs could do better. (I was especially disappointed when the Leafs held onto Keefe instead of pursuing the recently available Laviolette, who I think could direct this talented Leafs team to play at its full potential). I don’t think that Keefe is a horrible coach but neither do I think that he’s anything special. I like the fact that he understands that this team’s greatest strength is its wealth of offensive talent and has played to that strength by adopting an aggressive offensive approach (it would be sinful to adopt a conservative strategy that placed an overly constrictive leash on that talent; I would rather see my team lose than be bored to death by watching it play the ultra-conservative game that the successful Trotz had his teams play). However, I think that he lacks that really high resolution understanding and insight into how the game is played at this elite level that allow a coach to devise and implement a system that will function well yet not detract significantly from the team’s strength. I also think that he’s a bit lacking in the ability to manage and get the best out of his players. We all know that Keefe heads into the playoffs in a desperate situation—a first round elimination (and possibly even a second round one) means a pink slip for him. So, will the Leafs have a successful enough playoff run to stave off that pink slip? I can’t say that I feel very confident that they will but as the old saying goes: ”You never know”?!

If I was Keefe, to be fair, I'd always keep it low-key and not du mp on anyone ever. Don't let sharks get a bite.
