Now just to add to the negative feelings that i have I starting thinking, what happens next year when Eddie leaves? Is Tellqvist going to be ready? Is he even going to be with the team. Will the Cat make a comeback with the Leafs? Or will it be the best available free agent goalie? I just would hate to see them end up with Swiss Cheese Kidd as the # 1 guy. Oh well we have 12 months to wrry about this one I guess?

I don't suppose Giguerre would be ready to jump ship by then?

well, there is that teeny tiny clause in Eddie's contract that if the Leafs make the stanley cup finals he instantly gets another year to his contract.'
nu, with that being said....
i think we should worry about it next May. ;D
I think, at that time, Kidd would have had another year to play under Belfour and Tellqvist would be groomed with the understanding if there is no strikeout he'll be backup to kidd........or whomever replaces him.
with with Giguere, I'd wait two years to see if this isn't a Jose theodore repeat.

First off something tells me that Giggy as he is affectionately called is probably going to be locked into the Anaheim Franchsie longer then the average goalie would normally be locked in.
Second the thought of Eddie leaving hasn't even come into the equation, although something tells me Pam probably thought that thought shortly after hearing he signed up with TO. ;D

I can hardly wait to boo him again!! ;D ;D ;D Team loyalty comes first, so that's the only thing keeping me in line.

This may have been touched on before but i've missed so much the past while. (I miss my da*n pc.) I realize it's a personal pipe-dream but I think that Theodore would be a key pick-up to entering the next section of our team's future. His value have fallen dramatically since a year ago when he was considered the second-coming of Plante/Hall etc. Hell, if you'd asked around he would have been rated as a GUARANTEED hall/famer. He was the league MVP and the sure goalie in the next Olympics. Right?? Nowadays you can find more than one Montreal fan who thinks his time has come/gone and they've got the real one with his back-up. We have all seen flashes of our future goaltending with a variety of characters and, it seems, the years are 'iffy' once Eddie calls it quits. Prospects are hot/cold and that's certainly not much to feel confident about.
Many here are more qualified to offer opinions/suggestions as to could be offered as likely suspects. I'd begin by mentioning a certain young defenceman whom many seem to covet league-wide as being a terrific little offensive guy who has years to reach his potential. We have many very young def. who will have to develop/fight to become real NHLers the next few years. There are certain risks associated with any player's rise/fall but the number of solid candidates we have on the blue-line makes it a pretty good bet that more than one will be in blue/white for years to come. Hainvg a solid goalie can solidify a team's credibility more than anything. It's just a fantasy but i'd trade Mr. Kaberle to enable us getting #60. A fellas gotta dream.

I think the Leafs should offer Belfour to the Flyers and go with Tellqvist next season. Clarke is desperate for a Stanley Cup and I bet he would pay dearly for a backstop like Eddie. Quite possibly Janni Pitkanen could be the return in such a deal.

CL do you think Tellqvist is ready?

He is as ready as he is ever going to be. Quinn has a history of sitting too long on prospects and stunting their development. He likes to crow about how successful he was with slowly developing Antropov but it was the injuries more than coaching which made that a fact. Hell! Quinn tried to trade Big Nik three times in the last two years.
An opportunity to make a deal like the one that could be made for Belfour is a rare thing. Despite his age, Belfour looks to be a perfect acquisition for a team in need of a great goaltender. The Leafs will not be real contenders next season no matter what management says. Grab Pitkanen from the Flyers for Eddie. This young Finn will be a horse of a defenceman one day. He is that good.
I would deal Mogilny too. It is pointless to keep him around without building the proper team around him. After the season Mogilny had, he could fetch a couple of decent prospects and probably a first round pick as well.
