For YEARS (see: Berard; Brian, Hossa high stick), we've been telling the people out there in the NHL world that the Ottawa Senators are a dirty, dirty team. They carry their sticks way too high, they don't have any aversons to slewfooting, hitting people in the nether-reigons, and so forth and so forth
but becuase they collect the NHL version for food stamps, they're the bright star of the league.
they get chance after chance, they get 11 stanley cups rewarded to them, they NEVER seem to get suspended for dirty play.
but the Flyers are on to their game. (about time). Hitchco*k was teed off to say the least after game two, and basically said, to keep their sticks on the ice, or they should be punished. If their players did ANYTHING like that, they'd be in the penalty box, or fined or something.
Ottawa....well they are considering it a compliment (some of them; they see it as a good thing, as they were soft last 10 years or so).
What is this team's secret? if it were the blue and white, ooh, the penalities called...

Have I ever told you guys that I believe that the Sens are the dirtiest team in the NHL. I think I may have mentioned that about 63445 times, and for about 4 years now!
I HATE this team. The entire roster is a bunch of pathetic s***heads who deserve nothing but a serious beating.
I'm sick and tired of tax money bailing these A$$es out.

I too am with you guys on this one. There is a sad group among hockey fans that equate tough with dirty. I think Hitch said it best, along the lines of 'I saw more crap in one period here than in almost 10 games with Toronto'. Another board I visit has a ton of posts from Flyer fans saying they feel sorry for us with all the Sens fans. All through the Leaf / Flyer series there was trash talk, but they said the Sens fans are unreal, a bunch of jerks. Also, anyone that lives in Ontario should call their MPP. Eves said there is a feeling amongst the government that they should forgive the provincial loan the Sens owe for the overpass to help Melnyk. What is that $hit, is he going to write a cheque for 50-100 mill for LT? Oh, no I forgot, the Leafs actually pay their own bills. Whether we feel the same or not, I can honestly say I hate Ottawa moe than any other team in the league.

You can't POSSIBLY be talking about those fine lads from our nation's capital being led by none other than Mr. Lady Byng himself...that sweetheart of a captain. Say it isn't so..........

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

it's not sour grapes, it's stating the facts.
the whole team carries their sticks high. hardly ever, unless someone is gushing blood do they get a high sticking penalty on them.
everyone in Canada has to bail them out because they racked up incredible debt. However, if it's teams w/history, Montreal who had to be bought by an American, Edmonton, or Toronto, no money what's so ever.
Edmonton and Calgary are struggling to survive. The Alberta government is taxing players, not the people.
Vancouver is finally getting itself straightened out finanically.
Ottawa? Came INTO debt, couldn't work off the debt, had to get deals over and over and over and over.....and if the deal goes through, it is still going to be waived off.
the dirtiness?
The Toronto game, Alfreddson was going to tomahawk Domi, if Reichel didn't restrain him. Then when the media mentioned it, he was like, well of COURSE i was going to stop myself, It wasn't like I "sucker punched" a non fighter...
I'm a big pacfist myself, but if ANYONE came after me I'd defend myself. Arvedson was stupid.
this team slewfoots everyone, chops them down, and they (the league) is blind to their charms
Toronto isn't an angel, but at least if they're cheap, they do admit it, and they back it up (aka, fight it out). Ottawa shies away, and then its' like, why? why would they attack us?

Jimmy, they are right on this one. Even Hitch has made comments about it ( Sens dirtiness).
It was in the Press for months about the Sens financial problems and the chances they have been given while Edmonton and Calgary are struggling to hang on. It was all over TSN, WayMoreSports, SLAM Hockey, etc. If the Sens are given so many chances, then the Flames and Oilers should be given the same kind of financial chances. It's also true the Sens have been in financial trouble from the day they opened for business.

Half their problems was Bryden trying to cover loans with more loans, much like you or I getting a credit card to cover another credit card until next month when we cover the second credit card and so on and so on. And Lap the thing about the taxes was always there it's just that the government never persued it until recently.
As for the original intention of this thread I think they are just as dirty as most teams out there, but why in god's name are they constantly allowed to continue carrying their sticks high, hitting from behind, whatever? and please don't tell me that the league turns a blind eye to it Jimmy. If that is the case then we should also get preferential treatment.

What really bothers me about the Sens and their fans is that they are everything that they and many others claim the Leafs are .... dirty, whiners, etc ... and no one seems to notice! They are the league welfare bums ... top of the league and they still can't support themselves, getting break after break from our tax dollars.
When all is said and done (and the Sens are hopefully eliminated if there really is a hockey God), it will most likely be a Toronto business man who bails them out and buys the team. I guess that either no one in Eastern Ontario has any money or no one there cares enough about their team to step up to the plate. (or the blue line, as it were, LOL)
Oh well. I can only hope that, if they make it to the final, they will be swept by the Mightly Ducks ... the great equalizer of the 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Well I hate the Sens because before they came into the league I used to get as many as three Leaf games a week on TV in Ottawa. Now, I am lucky to get one Leaf game on CBC on Saturday. What really irks me however is that Hab fans still get to watch their beloved Canadiens three or four times a week as long as they don't mind watching the game on a french language station. Why is it that us old cranky fellows are always getting the shaft? What's worse, one of the local jewellers has a commercial on television featuring Daniel Alfredson walking into one of their stores and buying a Rolex. Nice touch there Dan. Half the high tech workers in Kanata have been laid off and you're out flaunting an overpriced Swiss timepiece you probably got for nothing. As for sour grapes? I got mine in the bottle of wine I opened up last night for dinner. Perhaps I will re-cork it and go over and christen Daniel Alfredson's brand new Volvo.

That's terrible, CL! To be flaunting his luxuries when so many are hurting for cash is pretty low. If the people running the Sens (is there anybody running them?) had any brains, they would nip such things in the bud. A team in financial trouble that is a burden on the taxpayers, yet their captain is living in luxury? Ridiculous.

Very well said, Leafgirl. I happen to agree with you. We have the same problem here with thousands of people out of work from layoffs and not being able to get a new job because there aren't any jobs. If I saw one of the Sharks in a TV commercial walking into a Jewlers here in the Bay Area to 'buy' a Rolex I would feel the exact same way. What I find incredible is Game 1 of Round 2 for the Sens was in the Sens arena. Even though the Sens were in Round 2, the game was NOT a sellout. Can you even believe that!! Any team that can't get a Sellout in Round 2 makes me wonder just how much of a fan Sens fans really are. Sure there are lots of fans that can't afford the tickets right now, but there are others that can. But this lack of attendance isn't anything new with Sens fans from what I hear. Right now TG and I are members on another Forum. They cover AHL, MLB (can't remember if they cover BBall and Football) and all 30 NHL teams. The Admin is a SENS fan. For a Sens fan, he is alright, and he does go to the games.

Relax ladies. I was just trying to add some humour. I'll get over not being able to see the Leafs that often and as for the Rolex, it is probably far too complicated for Alfredsson to use properly anyway.
