Matt was the 2nd def. picked for his high school team (his best friend was #1) so he was pleased as punch. But he developed mono and spent a week in the hospital. He's out now but feels worse as his immune system is down. Sore throat, weak, etc. And he's gotta have an ultra sound in 4-6 weeks to make sure his insides aren't still swollen. Until they're back to normal he can't even go on the ice which is killing him. He sleeps alot and is on a prescription so (hopefully) he'll feel better the next few days. There will be lots of games this year but that doesn't help him much now. ps...Pam, you might wanna change this section to 'Kid's Sports' as (i'm sure) many here have stories from other areas. I'd do it but I dunno how!!

Congratulations on your selection Matt!! Don't worry man, it's still early October and lots of hockey left. Look at the bright side, when the hockey counts the most you will be in peak shape and form. Stay positive and you will get back on track faster.

Gee OM, I'm so sorry to hear about Matt. When I was 18, my best friend had Mono and I saw how sick you get with it. I hope he feels better soon. As Rover said, there is plenty of hockey left for Matt. The most important thing right now is him getting 100% well.
I could make another section for Kids. I would prefer to keep this one just Hockey. I could do a Kids Other.

ps...How's this for a screw-job?? The official rule in high school is that 'x' amount of time missed for any reason means that you already fail the year!! Matt's prob. gonna be in school this Monday b/c, if not, not only is he 'officially' failed for the year, but he still has to go to all his classes, and he won't be able to play on school sport's teams. Don't go away. This isn't over yet. (Yeah, i'm pretty ticked.) We'll see how it plays out. I'm keepin' my fingers crossed.

Gee that's the pits, OM, and it sure doesn't sound fair. I don't blame you for being P.O.'d.

Matt came over the house last night (he lives w/ his mom) and he went to school today (Friday). He looks a bit tired but emotionally he's great and is looking forwards to getting back to a routine. He also bought new skates @ about $300 (mostly his own $) which included a stick which normally cost about $175. It was good to see him enthused especially since he was so wiped out the last few weeks. I'm sure he'll have relapses but he's on-the-way as they say.

I'm glad to hear Matt is better and that he could go back to school and not lose his place in the hockey program.
