Penny admitted this morning that they sent offers (or called at least) the agents to
Todd Marchant and Oleg Tverdovsky
Why Tverdosky?!

Because he will probably cost around 2 mill/year and can move the puck extremely well. I think we need to chase Devries, Wesley and this guy if they are all affordable, and don't want mega years. If Svehla then decides to come back we have tradeable assets for the deadline. I'd take Oleg over Yushkie in a heartbeat. Also, Penny said they called the agents, NO offers were made, just some chat to express some interest and see where the parameters are.

That is a weird one. I don't see the Marchant angle. Sundin and Nik. Marchant should be more than a 3rd line checking center and the 4th is def. out. He was a +13 and had 60 pts as well. Not somebody you want hiding away on 3rd line. Does that mean Nik is being moved to lw?? Don't get it?? As for Oleg that's even dumber. We need d-men who actually know what to do inside their own end. From what i've read he's far from that. Weird, indeed. Story

Actually OM, Marchant is considered to be just that, a 3rd line center. Speed is his most notable asset, but this guy is excellent on the penalty kill, which is something we need to rememdy since losing McCauley. Besides, playing him on the 3rd line means Reichel moves down one more. With any luck, he'll move right off the roster.

Marchant is in the mold of players the Leafs should be pursuing AFTER they find a d-man or two.Like Maplebud says he is a great penalty killer and a real threat offensively while on the p-kill.Altho a small player,he plays with intensity and does have great speed.Has he become to rich for the Oilers??Not sure why they would let him go.He had a banner year last season.

I guess that point production threw me off a bit. We'd all love the Hatcher's and Fedorov's but realism might be that nabbing deVries and Marchment might be the order of the day. As you say, TMan, our biggest issue is STILL an bonafide d-man. Seems we've been saying that forever. If we could get deVries and re-sign Wesley things woud look much sounder.

Totally agree OM.I think mid-range salaried players should be the order of the day.We need TEAM players with normal egos who don't think the whole world should revolve around them.I'm cautiously optimistic that owners may be FINALLY seeing the light.A good system with a cohesive team unit will get you a long ways in the playoffs. While I agree that every team needs one or 2 gamebreakers we shouldn't have to break the bank or deplete our draft choices to get a team that can win when it counts.

When I say the Leafs have needed to fix the blueline for the last few years, that was an understatement. Totally agree OM.I think mid-range salaried players should be the order of the day.We need TEAM players with normal egos who don't think the whole world should revolve around them. TMan, I totally agree with you too. I am getting SO TIRED of all the big me, me me, egos with their inflated salaries. The Leafs don't need any more egos. All they need is a few good defensemen. There are good defensemen available who aren't high priced and filled with ego. Gee guys, I've been agreeing with so much lately you guys are going to wonder if it's really me or an imposter. It's me!! Even I agree sometimes.
