Can someone please tell me how the Leafs have No Money? how does the most lucrative franchise in the League to date, have no money to spend on UFA's.
the team where not ONLY could we have the best team money can buy (not that I want that; just the key components so we can really go for it this year) but pay any luxury tax that COULD (key word here being COULD; we don't know if there is going to be a luxury tax implemented)...
where is the war chest? where is the money that we had to spend last year? we had the money to offer holik and darius k. last year did that money just evaporate?
like i said. i can live without kariya (though it hurts that he was gone for 1.2 mill), selanne, and hatcher. but not to go after marchant, or de vries or someone; ANYONE, because why?
svhela COULD come back (Holland told Hasek he had until next week to tell him if he was coming back; Quinn said today, if this was a play to finagle more money, screw him. either honour your contract, or sign the papers).
but he keeps saying he has no money (before he left for vancouver).
how do we not? did we lose money they aren't telling us?
if they aren't going to make a run this season at least have the kahunas to say so.

Apparently the Leafs have 4 big contracts:
Sundin, Belfour, Mogilny and Nolan
Therefore the GM at this moment believes we've tapped the well dry. Unfortunately with Lumme being bought out, Svehla up in the air, Reichel being overpaid along with others we have no money left. I think ownership has set a new budget and told Quinn not to go over it, hell Quinn thought they couldn't afford deVries, Marchant or even Wesley's salaries. Something is screwy, and Quinn better do something because we do not have the team to win the cup right now, especially since we didn't get past the first round last season.
Hey you never know, maybe Quinn is trying to make himself look better this year by making everyone think he's going after no one(and by that I mean after last year's failures, publically stating that he isn't in the Federov sweepstakes lowers the letdown of the fans and media when we don't get him)... or maybe he is going after no one and adding another number to the drought.

We don't have the team to make the playoffs with the thin blueline we're using. That's true LOL... oh why am I laughing, it's seriously frightening to watch other teams make the deals they need to win and watch the Leafs out in LA LA Land, waiting for the cup to come to them. If it's true that agents were sending resumes around and the Leafs just sat there and ignored them then we obviously are run by a bunch of morons. If they're going to play the who cares about the fans we're in it for the money game then I'm going to jump ship. You can only cheer for a team for so long before you realize that they don't care about you or your team loyalty. If they do nothing I'll be wearing my Sakic jersey or my Salo jersey all season and hoping the Avs or Oilers win me a cup.

If I had that option of cheering for another team, I might be so inclined, but I find it difficult to even watch a full game if it isn't the Leafs playing. When I'm frustrated with them, I just stop watching for awhile. Better for my heart that way ;D

When I'm frustrated with them, I just stop watching for awhile. Better for my heart that way ;D I just sorta grew on these two teams. I never used to watch them up until two years ago when I realized how exciting and how intense of a game the Oilers play while watching them on CBC. I also like a small market team that doesn't commit to a trap to compete in a league with huge salaries and teams with minor leaguers. The Avs I like because after watching the Olympics I really enjoyed the level of play that Sakic plays and before long the whole team sorta grew on me. I know a lot of fans are angry for what they did today but from my understanding they didn't hold a gun to these players and they just did what was best for the team(Unlike another team...)

svhela COULD come back (Holland told Hasek he had until next week to tell him if he was coming back; Quinn said today, if this was a play to finagle more money, screw him. either honour your contract, or sign the papers). Svhela is a problem, the Leafs exercised his option so he wouldn't become a UFA and pull a Berard on us. They are on the hook when and if decides to come back. The Hasek situation is exactly the same, Holland can issue ultimatums till the cows come home, if Hasek shows up at training camp they pay. I am as disappointed as anyone about Hatcher but if you pay him 6mm and Svhela comes back you are now spending 10mm on 2 defenceman. Just because Detroit spends ALL profit on there team should not be the model for the rest of the league. If Hasek comes back they will be a full-time panic mode dumping salary. So they sign Hatcher to sell tickets to make up for the loss of Federov. Once again let's not panic because with the exception of Hatcher (who was a long-shot) none of to-days signings trade were even on the radar screen.

i'm super confused.
(this is from the fan, if this sounds familiar, but it does make a lot of sense).
In April, we traded Boyes and Mccauley and the first round pick for Owen Nolan. we really can't judge how that pans out until NEXT year. but just by getting him, we were under the delusion that we were going for the cup
we get humiliated in the first round.
now, 4 months later, it's all like we're not going to do ANYTHING?
at all?
no offense, because i'm super glad they are finally listening to reason (sort of) and playing the youth, but
Kaberle McCabe Jackman Berg Coliaiavico Bell? Pilar?
that's our lineup to win us the cup? that's our lineup to even get into the playoffs?
i mean
if they aren't going for it; and want to go for it after the lockout/strike, that's fine by me. that gives our farm team about 2 years to really develop.
but SAY it. go. "We are not going for the cup be paitent" then you better tell Belfour and Sundin that plan, and hope that Sundin doesn't give Quinn teeth like his. this poor man, is going to endure yet ANOTHER medicore season, with medicore team mates when he knows he could have had Kariya, Federov, etc (not like I really want Federov, and Sundin is medicore at times too...but that's not the point).
i really hate it when people change their tunes and don't alert the general public.. i'm pretty sure most leaf fans (whilst majorly p.oed) would understand not going for the cup.
so just go.
we're not going for it. it's so super obvious that we're not
(and i will SO eat crow if they do do well)

OM, I think we have been a bad influence on Lappi. She was very positive when she first joined LeafsChat but we turned her into a questioner like us. Poor Lappi. I wonder if she will ever forgive us.

Actually, OM, I get pretty worked up too. I did feel better when I read one comment over on Trickster's forum. The guy went about explaining how you build a winner and it left the Leafs looking a bit better than I would have said. I have invited this fellow here, he has a keen understanding of the development leagues, etc. So far he hasn't responded. As soon as I get a chance I'll cut and paste his blurbs. I'll give credit to him for the thought though, all these new mods, I'm not sure how strict they are on the plagarism rules ;D At least all the money is being spent in the West, potentially leaving room in the East for someone else.
