I meant to post this yesterday. Everyone has probably heard about the new email worm, but just in case, here is some info on it. This is a REAL worm and not a hoax because we are on 'worm alert' at work. I.T. put the word out on it yesterday and I had already heard about it when I saw the alert at work.
Email Worm Alert
News Date: 26 Jan 2004
We are being impacted by an outbreak of a mass-mailing worm. When activated, this mass-mailer uses your PCs mail directory to send email to infect others. These messages will increase email traffic to your ISP and impact the performance of their email network.
What you should do:
If you receive any suspicious email messages with an odd subject line (such as Test, Hi, Hello or ServerReport) and an attachment, please delete them!
The best protection for any computer system is to have up-to-date antivirus software running. Here are some basic steps that you can take to help prevent the spread and damage caused by the worm:
1. If you suspect your system is infected, run your Anti-Virus Program
2. Check to ensure your Anti-Virus software is up to date.
3. If you don't have an Anti-Virus Program, or if it is an outdated Anti-Virus Program, you should purchase/update your Anti-Virus Program.
With so many PC Viruses now days, everyone needs a good Anti-Virus Program. With the ever changing/evolution of current Viruses, and with the constant new Viruses, you should keep your Anti-Virus Program up to date. The people who start these Viruses need to get a life!!
