Only half the article...the other half is about Roman Hamerlik. If ya want the entire thing......http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=46331 ======================================= A separate report in the St. Petersburg Times suggests the Lightning have made preliminary contact with Greg de Vries.
Tampa Bay forward Chris Dingman says de Vries asked him what it was like to play in Tampa Bay during a charity golf tournament in Minnesota recently.
Dingman and de Vries were roommates for two seasons with the Colorado Avalanche.
"He said he didn't know where he was going," Dingman tells the newspaper. "He was just kind of asking around."
De Vries was considered the number three defenseman last season in Colorado behind Rob Blake and Adam Foote, logging more than 22-minutes of ice time and posting a plus-15 racing.
De Vries is said to be looking for a four year deal worth $3.5-million a season. He earned just over $1.3-million with Colorado last year.

I cannot state how incredibly incensed I would be if the freakin' Tampa Bay Lightning outbid the Leafs for DeVries. That's just wrong on so many levels.

I seriously doubt the Leafs will even enter the bidding. It's a youth movement now. Time to rebuild while maintaining the illusion that a Stanley Cup is right around the corner.
