And I though we have been patient...for 36 years ;D

Be patient with Leafs, Peddie asks fans
By MIKE ZEISBERGER -- Toronto Sun
The grand pooh-bahs of the Maple Leafs want fans to stop panicking.
What you see now is not what you'll get come the regular season, Richard Peddie vowed yesterday.
"Don't judge us yet," the president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. said, attempting to alleviate the criticism the organization is facing for not dipping in to the big-name free-agent hunt.
"It's only July 4. We know we must address our defence but we still think the market is going to come down."
Peddie said the Derian Hatcher signing on Thursday -- a six-year, $30-million US pact with the Detroit Red Wings -- is unlikely to cause a domino effect that suddenly sees teams overpaying for available defencemen.
"Hatcher was an elite-level guy," Peddie said.
WORKING THE PHONES
The Leafs continue to work the phones in search of free-agent defencemen, with Oleg Tverdovsky's name continuing to come up. While the Leafs might be able to lock up the 27-year-old on a one-year deal for about $3 million, a number of other teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, are in the running as well.
"I went around the horn but there is nothing doing," Leafs assistant general manager Mike Penny said from Hilton Head, S.C., where he is attending American Hockey League meetings. "With the July 4 weekend going on here in the U.S., there might not be much action until early next week."
Don't count out the possibility of a trade for the Leafs either. With the Calgary Flames having acquired defenceman Rhett Warrener on Thursday from the Buffalo Sabres, they could be a potential dance partner for Toronto. The Leafs have shown interest in defenceman Bob Boughner in the past.
The Leafs continue to balk at Glen Wesley's asking price, believed to be two years plus an option at $3 million per.
