Always an emotional day for me. My dad was in WWII so today makes me even more grateful for things.

My father was also in WWII in the Navy. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese bombed it. If he hadn't been on shore leave that day I probably wouldn't be here. When Gaye Stewart read that poem I got all choked up and tears were in my eyes. Then on Coach's Corner they showed all your young men in their 20's who have died. I can't remember the entire name but it was the Princess 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalion's of the Canadian Light who lost the most men. It was so sad to see how many men you lost that were in their 20's. The tears were just falling so hard I had to hold a kleenex to my eyes. I am getting tears just thinking about it. We always hear in the States how many men we lose in this Post War Iraq era, but I doubt many people in the States outside of us Hockey fans know just how many young men Canada has lost. I think they would be floored to learn how many young men Canada is losing.
I guess maybe I can chalk up my emotional response to all the lost young men to the fact I almost wasn't born and having lived through the Vietnam era, and having dated our navy men that were in the war, having almost lost a cousin in Vietnam, and having my best friend lose her brother in Vietnam. War is horrible. I hate it. I just wish there was some way to bring Peace to our world so we wouldn't have to lose so many young men, or anyone.

This day like all veterans never get the full respect they deserve. I for one take for granted what our soldiers are doing right now as I type for me and millions of others.

This day like all veterans never get the full respect they deserve. How right you are!! It's too bad you had to miss the ceremony before the game and the pictures of all the Canadian Soldiers lost in this war. It was so sad. Between the U.S. and Canada we are losing a lot, far too many, men and women in the wars, and post war era in Iraq (is it really over?) I saw how are boys were treated after Vietnam. It was unforgivable the way our Government and some people treated them. Our boys, both U.S. and Canadian, deserve a lot of respect with all they do and all they give to protect freedom.

My Dad served in WWII as well. I've definitely been thinking about him all day.
