Labour day in Canada, my Stampeders finally showed the effect of playing so many backups but won anyway, and my all-time favourite baseball player, Vladimir Guerrero, retired after more knee operations. One of only 6 players in baseball history to hit over .315 for his career and over 400 home runs, the Dominican's all-time hits leader, only Latin player to get at least 200 hits in 4 different seasons, holder of most offensive season and career Montréal Expos records and many LA Angels records, and lead 6 teams in 7 years to Division titles, including one League Championship (A requirement to become my all-time favourite in a sport!).
Now when will he be in the Baseball Hall of Fame? 2017 is his first year but bigots will try and keep him out. And when will Mark Aguirre be finally selected to the College Hall of Fame?
Now I need the last piece, a hockey all-time favourite! Has to be good, win an award of note, and a league title (Stanley Cup of course).

I grew up a Dodgers fan. I don't know if you know this, but when the Dodgers signed Vladimir's brother they also had the chance to sign Vladimir to a contract. They didn't do it because they thought Vladimir wouldn't pan out. Ha!! Vlad did and we got stuck with his brother. He was awful!! I can't even remember his first name.

Yes, I know that story, it was his brother Wilton. When they saw Vlad they thought he had skills but not really that much talent, too injury-prone. Expos snapped him up two days later!

I remember that blunder so well, its as if it happened yesterday. I was so pissed off at the Dodgers for passing up on Vladimir and just signing Wilton, I could have spit nails. Wilton was so over rated it wasn't funny. He was a below average player. The Dodgers would have done lots better with Vladimir on the team and Wilton going elsewhere. Wilton was more suited to the Minors AAA.
