I wanted to post this first thing this morning, but the day just didn't go that way.
Politics, War, Religion and Terrorism are topics I generally don't talk about because everyone has their own opinion on each of these topics, and some people can get really angry if you don't agree with them. Then with the electronic word you can't see word inflection or facial expression, so an innocent comment can be taken the wrong way if not worded carefully. But today I feel the need to honor our Military. Too much has gone on, on our home soil the last couple years, and now my adopted country had their recent attack on their War Memorial, and that one hurt me too.
It has been 100 years since World War I for both our countries. While I don't always agree with the Wars the United States goes into, I ALWAYS support my Armed Forces. Its their job just like your job and my job. They protect our countries. I was appalled at the way the United States treated the Veterans who returned from Vietnam after we left there. They gave so much to that war and were treated terrible by almost everyone, including our Government, when they returned home, but not by me. I hated that war and was very much against it. I didn't do all that demonstration stuff. A lot of it was extreme, radical, and wrong. But if anyone brought the Vietnam War up, I was very vocal against it. I was for Desert Storm, but against the Iraq War. Afghanistan though I wish it wasn't necessary, it is, so I have to support it. Throughout all the Wars from Vietnam to Afghanistan I have supported my Armed Forces in spite of how I personally felt about the war.
Today is Veteran's Day in the United States. The U.S. finally grew up (to a point) and they finally honor our Military, fallen, injured, disabled and alive, (and it's about time!) They protect us and our country. It's about time we honored the thankless job they do to protect us and make it a THANKFUL job.
It is Remembrance Day in Canada, and every time Don Cherry gives the list on HNIC about another Military person who has been killed in Afghanistan I cry. It hurts me too. When that attack happened it Ottawa, that really hurt me too. Before all the layoffs in the Bay Are,a I could plan my trips to Toronto for long enough to also visit my friends in the Toronto area and in Kingston. I developed a deep love for Canada from the time I was a small child (that's another story), and after becoming a Leafs fan and traveling to Toronto I met people and made friends I could also visit, so have ties there. And then I have all of you guys. I love my adopted county, so I honour your Military, fallen, injured, disabled and alive today too.
