You guys know I am a geek. What you don't know is I am a Star Wars fan and have been since May 1977. My kids and I stood outside a theater in San Jose for 3 hours to see the movie. I found the San Diego Star Wars Society at Comic-Con in July 2005, 22 months after moving to San Diego County. I dress as a Jedi, but we aren't a Costuming Club, we are a non profit club that does a lot of charity work in San Diego County. My family became a 3 generation Star Wars family with the 3 movies re-release in 1977. Last Friday when Carrie Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles to spend Christmas with her family 10 minutes before landing in Los Angeles she suffered a heart attack. They started CPR on the plane and she wasn't breathing for 10 minutes before responding. She was taken to UCLA Hospital and was on life support. Her family reported her stable on Sunday. In my head I knew this was coming, but in my heart I was hoping she would recover. My heart is in pain today. The entire Star Wars family from George Lucas to every Star Wars fan World Wide is in mourning today. Carrie is at peace, but her daughter Billie, mother Debbie, and the family is in pain today. My prayers go out to Carrie's family to ease their pain and help them through their grief. I know first hand how hard it is to suddenly lose a mother during the holidays. It is harder for the loss during the holidays. I lost my mother 18 days after my 28th birthday, 5 days before Thanksgiving. It puts a sad touch to the holidays every year.

More sadness today. Yesterday after Carrie died I was concerned her mother Debbie Reynolds would have something happen. I was out today and at 2:50pm I turned on KNX News Radio in L.A. Right away I heard the report Debbie was in the Hospital. Debbie was at her son Todd's house planning Carrie's funeral, then at around 1pm 911 was call from his address to respond to an unidentified woman's problems with chest pains and breathing problems. I kept KNX on at home and finally at 6:30pm Todd Fisher spoke to the KNX Reporter at the hospital. Todd said while he and his mother were discussing the funeral, Debbie said to him she missed Carrie and wanted to be with her, and literally half an hour later he had to call 911.
Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher had a nasty divorce in 1959. I heard about it in Northern California even though we didn't have many TV Stations or the Internet in 1959. I always liked Debbie Reynolds, so I felt very bad for Debbie and her children for what they had to go through in 1959. Carrie was 3 years old in October 1959 and I was 13 years old 15 days later in November. So my feelings for the family go way back before Star Wars.
They may list Debbie's death as stroke, because she already had 1 stroke and her health wasn't that good. She was in a lot of distress after Carrie's heart attack on Friday. But there is something called Broken Heart Syndrome. Symptoms are chest pain and breathing problems and is brought on by the loss of a child, divorce or the death of a close family member. Doctors use to think it was a heart attack and looked for blockage of the heart, but all they could see was a weak heart. EKG's could also be bad. Since Debbie was already in distress and said she wanted to be with Carrie, I think Debbie really died from Broken Heart Syndrome. It can happen with men, but is something mostly experience by middle aged to older women, and most people recover from it in a few days or few weeks, but occasionally they die.
This is such a sad tragedy having both Carrie and Debbie die 1 day apart. My thought and prayers go out to Todd Fisher and the rest of Debbie's and Carrie's family during this time of going through the loss of 2 family members.
