Hi Everyone,
New to the boards. Been posting @ tmlforum.net for the past 14 years but they have decided to shut the boards down. Before that was on the original Leafs qoute zone. Happy to be here. Looking forward to getting to know all of you

Hello all.
New to leafchat as well, having followed BiB over from tmlforum. I have been a die hard leaf fan for 46 years. Disappointed the season is over, but very excited about the future of this team. Looking forward to getting to know everyone here, and talking all things blue and white.

Hey folks,
Another transfer from the TMLforum board and the very old Leafs Quote Zone as well. Followed bleedinblue over here just like BW. Sure there will be more to follow leading up to the TMLforum board going dark.

Awesome welcome to you all. Glad to have you here. We have a smaller group but have been together for I believe over 15 years (our fearless leader Pam would know). We have a mature group here.. Many "old timers" if you will. Enjoy

Hi Cap'n, BiB and Bwforever,
I had your welcome all written at 11pm my time last night but just as I was ready to post it the Internet went down for a few minutes, so I decided to wait until today to rewrite your welcome.
18 years ago I was on tmlforum. If the one you were on is the same one, Rick was the Administrator at that time. How come they are shutting it down?
I was also on a general hockey forum with fans of lots of different teams. The Administrator was Ian. One of the members was a Habs fan and in March 2000, he created a Sens forum, Leafschat and HabsRUs to enhance that forum. The Sens forum didn't take off but both Leafschat and HabsRUs were successful. He was a successful businessman east of Toronto. In late June 2000, I met him and one of his friends who also posted on both forums.
When I met him he said he was too busy with his business to continue both Leafschat and HabsRUs along with his business. He told me I was the best Leafs fan he had ever met and he couldn't think of anyone better to give Leafschat to.
I have been the Owner/Administrator of Leafschat since late June 2000. After a couple of different moves because of server problems I moved Leafschat to Proboards in February 2002, the 1st week of the Olympics.
Stugats, Gerard, TBO, and a few others have been on Leafschat since Fall 2001. The rest of our members joined 2002, 2003, and through 2 years ago.
I knew TMan and Thibault (TBO) on another forum since the start of the 1998 season. Our members range from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, with one in Ireland. Three of us are in the United States. Two relocated from Canada to the States, one has Canadian ancestry but born in the States. Me, I am a native Californian, with no Canadian ancestry, but I fell in love with Canada when I was 4 or 5 years old.
I'm originally from Northern California. I liked hockey but I didn't like the Sharks. I went to the Sharks games and rooted for the visiting teams, but none of them spoke to my heart so I didn't have a team yet. Then the first time I saw the Leafs in San Jose, something about them spoke to my heart and soul and I became a Leafs fan.
Some of our members post all the time and some of them only post once in a while. We might have a smaller membership than tmlforum but we have a great group here. We don't always agree with each other but that would be boring if we did. We all have different options and if we disagree with someone's opinion we are respectful to them when we disagree. Respect is very important.
Again, welcome to Leafschat, and I look forward to seeing you here posting.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Yes leafer is also from tmlforum.com We we're also a pretty small knit group so don't worry about a huge influx. I don't believe it is the same tmlforum you mentioned. I originally started posting about the leafs on what what called the quote zone, which was part of the old maple leafs original website. When it was shut down, to be turned into a real forum, a bunch of us found Tony Rose's tmlforum.com which was just starting out. The leaf forum came back up but we found it very busy, and not nearly as friendly as Tony's place, so we stayed with Tony. A little about myself. First off I am waaaayyyyy younger than Cap'n. lol. (Sorry I have been doing this for years, and have to get it in when I can) I am 46 and live in Caledon, jsut NORth of Toronto with my wife Barbara. I have been a leaf fan my entire life. How blue does my blood run? Well my grandfather used to play a weekly game of horseshoes with Foster Hewitt. It is a generational thing for sure. I try to get to a game every year. If the leafs ever get blown out, it's probably because i was in attendance. lol Oh, I "won" a contest for designing a leafs third jersey with the star a few years ago. www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2012/03/13/toronto_maple_leafs_third_jersey_here_are_star_readers_winning_designs.htmlFavorite player: Wendal Clark hands down. He could do it all. Have met him a few times. Current Favorite player: Undecided. Probably Kadri, although I have recently purchased Mathews and Marner Jerseys. Favorite leaf memory: I was working setting up equipment in a plant in greater detroit during the last wings/leafs playoff series. The line workers had a radio going. When Borchevsky scored I stood up on a picnic table and screamed "YYYEEEAAAHHHH!" Lucky to make it out alive. lmao. Not really. A great bunch of hockey fans down there. I don't generally post during games, but very much enjoy talking about the game results, who did well, who wears the goat horns etc. I also love to put my gm hat on and speculate on off season moves and or trades. You can expect I will post regularly. I looked around at a few forums before Bib found this one. After reading some of your past posts, I think this forum most closely matches the friendly and cordial atmosphere we are used too on tmlforum.com. I am very happy we have found this place. Thank you again for welcoming us.

I concur with BW, thanks for the warm welcome! First off, I'm much more mature than BW since he's "waaaayyyyy younger" than I am. I am also 46 and began chatting with these folks starting at the old Leafs Quote Zone. It was a message board that was wiped at midnight every day. When the official Leafs site shuttered the QZ, members were shifted over to the new forum style board and that's where a lot of the acquaintances were started. The Official Leafs forum switched formats and a huge influx of new, highly opinionated and generally belligerent users signed up and it became a nightmare for anyone looking for casual and respectful conversation and viewpoints. I was a late arrival to the TMLforum site but had still been there for double digit years as it approaches 14 years old before it shuts down soon. I recognize Gerard P as someone who has posted at the TMLforum site so he should have a good idea as to the quality of members that are migrating over... and it may just be the 4 of us for now. To take something from BW's post, my favourite Leaf memory was actually the day that my oldest daughter was born. The Leafs were in a 2000 playoff series with the Ottawa Senators and game 5 went into overtime. Stumpy Thomas scored in OT to take the series lead and my wife went into labour. The next game I watched from the hospital common area with my new daughter less than 36hrs old wrapped in a toddler sized Leafs jersey. The Leafs won that game also and moved on to the second round. ************************************ Hi caper!!! Good to see you here too.

Hi Caper, welcome to Leafschat! I'm sure you will like it here. Cap'n I had to grin at your age comments between BW and you. How I remember that 2000 playoff series beating the Sens. It was always great to beat them. I think if the Leafs could have played them this year in the playoffs the Leafs could have beat them again this time. And the birth of your Daughter at that time made it even more special. She must have looked really cute in that infant sized Leafs jersey. Did you take a picture of her in it? Gerard has been with me since Fall 2001.

Hi, another one from TML Forum which I'd joined in 2004. I'm from England so watching Leafs games means staying up until nearly 3am, something I can't do so much now I have a young child. Why the Leafs? I picked them as my team on the NHL97 PS1 game, wanted to pick a Canadian team and Toronto seemed a good place. Followed the games when Channel 5 started showing them in about 2002, first trip to Canada in 2005 just in time for the lockout, but got to my first Leafs game at New Jersey on NY Eve 2005, won 6-3. Next trip to Canada in November 2006, first visit to ACC, Leafs beat Islanders 4-2. Next trip was another 3 week rail trip in 2007, saw the home opener OT loss to Sens. Last trip to Canada was April 2009, saw the horrible 6-2 home loss to the Habs then another win in NJ, this time 4-1. Not been over since but hope to return with wife and daughter and take in a couple of Leafs games. Until then it's more occasional late nights for TV games and more Game in 6 highlights before work. This team of ours is getting interesting! Been a great season, the next will be even better. Go Leafs Go!
