Former pitcher dies in plane crashBlue Jays legend Roy Halladay is dead after crashing his personal plane in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday afternoon. He was 40. The eight-time all-star and two-time Cy Young Award winner was involved in the crash at about 1 p.m. Early reports out of Florida matched the plane’s registration number to Halladay’s own ICON A5 light sport aircraft, which he has posted frequently about since seemingly acquiring the airplane on Oct. 17. “I have dreamed about owning an A5 since I retired! Real life is better than my dreams!! Thanks Kirk and everyone @iconaircraft,” he wrote at the time. According to ICON’s website, the A5 seats two people in its co*kpit. A spokesperson for the company confirmed one of their planes was involved in an incident in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida on Tuesday. “We are in the process of finding out more information and will provide more details as facts come in,” the spokesperson said in an email to the Star....

That's very sad. He was coaching his boys in baseball and enjoying retirement. That's not how things are spose to go.

This is so sad. I'm so sorry. I didn't follow the Jays except during the World Series games in 1992 and 1993 ( or was it 1991 and 1992?), but his name sounds familiar. I know first hand what it feels like to lose your favorite baseball player because my favorite Dodgers pitcher of all time was Don Drysdale. I met him at a Sports Card Show in Los Angeles 2 1/2 months before he died in 1993. I was in Southern California, Anaheim, at a Sports Card Show and heard the announcement on Dodgers Radio that was broadcasting the game from Montreal. I was devastated, and my whole weekend in Anaheim was ruined after I heard the announcement.

I think if you just look up the tweets of baseball players who encountered Halladay you can see what he meant to the game of baseball.
I'm a Tigers fan and remember when he almost threw a no hitter against us before anyone had any idea who he was. He was a double edged sword, on the one hand he was the hardest worker on the field and on the other hand he was one of the most talented. Deadly combo. He also was the last pitcher who went the distance. He completed 67 games in his career. Unheard of in this day and age.
