I didn't want to include this with the Leafs game because it's not about the Leafs, so that's why the separation. I love HDIC and this is the 2nd season I can't watch it. I'm not a 'happy camper' not beng able to watch it, but I found a link to give me a view of some of it. I will get into HDIC after the 2 paragraphs below.
In the 1997/1998 season I found out Women's Team USA and Women's Team Canada were playng at the Sharks Arena in January 1998 just before the Olymics in February 1998. I fell in love with Women's hockey at that game. The Olympic games were in Nagano in 1998, so I had my VCR set up to record all the Mens and Womens hockey for Canada and USA so I could watch them (games were in the middle of the night for us). I also saw Women's USA and Women's Canada at the 2000 All Star weekend in Toronto.
In October 2001 I saw Women's USA and Women's Canada, and in December 2001 I saw Women's USA and Women's China at the Sharks Arena. I watched Womens Teams USA and Team Canada every Olympics. It killed me to miss the Olympic games in 2018 because it was the first time Women's USA won the Gold since 1998.
I love HDIC for all the stories I get to hear/see about players, teams and cities. I watched a (5 min) video with Sylvia Bryson. I know as a woman I may feel different about Womens hockey than you guys might. I love it and wish we had a Womens League so I could see it more, especially USA and Canada.
It was a shame UNB canceled Womens hockey after the 2006/2007 Season, and I laud Sylvia Bryson for taking on the task with NB to reinstate Womens hockey at UNB. She was right. It was discrimination on their part. They didn't scrap Mens and Womens Hockey at UNB, just Womens hockey, no longer giving women the chance to play hockey, as if Women in hockey didn't mean much. It's a shame it took 9 years for Sylva Bryson to win that fight with NB.
Another video (5:56) is about the 1986 Swift Curent Broncos accident where 4 players died. It brought me to tears. (I actually recognize quite a few of the players names).
Another moving video (3:51) is about the Heroes on and off the ice. The Swift Current Broncos and Humboldt Broncos first responders to the 1986 and 2018 bus crashes, When Habs player Trent McCreary was hit in the throat with a puck and almost died (I have never forgotten that incident, that it was a Habs player, but couldn't remember his name). Bryan Berard when he was hit and lost a good portion of sight in the eye. Koivu, Boyle.......
3 more Videos for me to watch now. Neil Doef defying the odds, Ron MacLean reflecting on Hockey Day in Canada, and the Hunter Brothers helping open HDIC.
Its so sad Ro Doef had a spinal cord njury, but its really great he can walk after his parents were told he would never walk again (another tear jerker).
I like Ron MacLean, especially when minus Don Cherry. In his video (6:07) I found out not only was Bob Harriman was the 1st responder in the 1986 Swift Broncos Bus accident, but that his daughter Susie Harriman was theTrauma surgeon after the Humboldt Broncos Bus accident. Such awful tradgies, so sad.
I will check later to see if there are any more videos and read the articles.
