It was 40 years ago today when Team U.S.A. beat Team Russia in one of the biggest upsets to defeat Russia and win the Gold Medal. A bunch of college hockey players against a 4 time champion Russian Team. I think this will always remain my country's best game. When you hear the U.S.A U.S.A. chant, it originated at this game. Since I didn't get NHL hockey in NorCal until the 90's I can't say for sure this game us what drove popularity of hockey in the U.S. but I have an idea it did. Luckily I got bits of hockey here and there in my life, so hockey was an easy move for me from MLB to NHL. Happy 40th Anniversary Team U.S.A.!
