I am especially pleased to see how this is working out. The boys kept the pressure up all night and our speed really made a huge difference.

As I mentioned in my 1st post, this game was the most important to me of the 3 games. It was personal. From the delayed puck drop at the start of the game through most of the game I was stressing in all but the last 3 minutes of the game. Revenge is best served cold, and the Leafs served it up on the ice. Thanks team!

I didn't know there was a rule for that either.
I believe the penalty for a hand pass from the faceoff has been on the books since about the 2013 season. Saw Tavares take one of those penalties a couple seasons ago.
It was brought in to stop the defensive zone centreman from tying up the opposing stick, dropping to his knees and swiping the puck back. (can still tie up and use your skate). If the play is won by the defensive centreman and a teammate moves the puck, the hand-pass is back into play for the defensive centreman.

The best signing Treliving made so far is Jones.. he is stabilizing things I agree Jim. Jones’s always seems to be in the right position and not diving all over the place. He is very technically sound. Good win against a team we should beat 99 out of 100 times. Willie is having himself quite a season.

Surprised BT got Jones that cheap but he has helped this team hold the fort. And yes every game it seems Willy gets a bit richer. If they sign him at the huge money the rumours are saying he wants then BT will have to go to beer leagues to fill the bottom six. But that’s a worry for another day. Just hope they can keep up this style they played in California. Fun to watch.

I read a story that any team claiming Jones also had to pay him 100 grand as a kind of signing bonus on top of the contract itself. I don't know if that's true or not but that would certainly be a deterrent considering he might not even play for them.
Every game I am more and more impressed with Knies and Benoit. Watching Knies full of confidence in the offensive is a fantastic sight to see. As for Benoit, he plays a punishing game every night and is def. not afraid to get in the middle of everything.

I read the same thing about the 100g bonus. Savvy thinking. And yes Benoit looked awful in pre season but his numbers in Anaheim were respectable as far as ice time, blocks, hits etc…go. Love his physical play. It almost looks like it’s rubbing off a bit on others. And Knies is fun to watch the way he uses his size and board battles. As time goes on he’ll shoot more rather than always look for 16,34.

Well, that was fun. When the Leafs came to San Jose last year they were in the middle of that early season funk, and lost the game 6-5 in OT. Couture had 2 goals and Erik Karlsson the OT winner. The Sharks look a lot different this year without Karlsson and Couture (Couture has been injured all season but might be back in action soon). The first period of this game looked a lot like a continuation of the Ducks game -- total domination by the Leafs, and I was a bit worried that they were only ahead 1-0 despite the onslaught. The Sharks only had 3 shots on goal in the first period but they definitely improved over the second and third. Overall the Leafs' defensive game looked solid. The fact that they allowed only 2 goals total in the 3 California games is a sign that they are getting more serious about their defensive play. After the dominant first period, it felt like offensively they eased up somewhat. Another thing I noticed was that they seemed to get a little too fancy at times with the passing. Nylander's second goal was a good example of that; even though he eventually got the bank shot off Blackwood, initially he was in front of Blackwood point blank, and then tried a pass to a well-covered Bertuzzi. The bottom six is looking as good as it has all season. I'm not sure what the long term plan is with Robertson, but I have to say, Holmberg seems to have been a positive impact on the third line. And I'm liking the Jarnkrok signing more and more. It felt like Benoit had a game of extremes. Some nice defensive play overall, one very noticeable hit and even had a decent scoring chance. But he also had a couple of bad neutral zone plays that allowed the Sharks to transition quickly for scoring chances of their own. Would have been nice for Jones to get the shutout, but still a nice win. It was funny during pre-game when they announced the starting lineup -- there were some audible boos when Jones was announced as the starting goalie. I mean, come on Sharks fans -- this is the only goalie that ever got you to the SCF! Like I said, it was a fun night -- at least it was for me. The Sharks fans I went there with, not so much. But hey, they had last year's win.
