Hello James, thanks for the information I do listen to hockey podcasts pretty regularly and will certainly check yours out.
I do have some questions for you and I will start with the upcoming NHL Draft and I will confess to being an NHL Draft junky. I know it's relatively early to talk draft but have you heard about any Junior players that the leafs could be interested in. I already have a list of players I would like the leafs to choose.
I am keeping in mind where I think the leafs will pick and I believe the lowest the leafs could pick 18. It could be lower of course but that would only happen if something disastrous like Matthews, Marner or Nylander are lost for the season, but I suspect they will pick between 18 and 25.
I have a couple of choices for the first round
Sacha Boisvert a 6’2” center playing in the USHL. He has good size and is a ok skater with a very good NHL type shot, though he is more of a shooter than a distributor
Charlie Elick a 6’3” right shot denfenseman who is one of the best skaters in this years draft. He will not bring alot offensively but will be very good at defending, I envision him being a bit like Chris Tanev and he has a bit of a mean streak as well
Personally I am hoping the leafs can trade into the second round becuase there are a couple of more defensmen that iintrigue me. Their both right shot and both are big
Harrison Bruinicke right shot 6”3” and 190 LBS Spencer Gill 6’4” right shot and 185 LBS
——————————————————————
I’ll enclude one non draft question if I may, what are the leafs going to do with Timothy Liljegren. I supported Liljegren over the years but find I can not any more. He does not seem to bring much to the table, not offensively and he is just barely ok defensively if you don’t mind non phyical low hockey IQ defensemen. What do you think the leafs would get if they move Liljegren. One option I would look at is Liljegren for a second round pick in this years draft and maybe a second round in 2026.
————————————————————————
One more question, what about the NCAA Free agent group this year. I really like Jacob Quillan of Quinnipiac University he’s 6’1” 195 lbs high energy good skating center. Quinnipiac University of course is the defending NCAA hockey Champions having defeated Matthew Knees University of Minnesota in last years Championship game with Jacob Quillan scoring the winning goal just 10 seconds into overtime.
The other NCAA free agent is T.J. Hughes he’s another center who’s 5’11 185 who plays for one of the best teams in the NCAA Michigan. He’s a good skater with a really high hockey IQ who’s having a big offensive year with Michigan.
