All of these trade options look like they could be a good fit but at what price? Leafs just can’t continue to trade off the future. If a couple of these trade options could be completed by trading Bert, Domi,Reaves, Brodie, one of Sammy or Jones then I’d be all for it but those might be tough deals to swing.

I like Jake Middleton too, just not for a first rounder. Perhaps the leafs could move Bertuzzi for a second round pick and then flip that second round pick and a prospect, say a Roni Hirvone, Nick Abruzzese, or Topi Niemela and I'm reluctant to enclude him other than he's not Brad Treliving type of defenseman being small and not overly physical.
Since we're talking defensemen, I don't see the urgency in trading for Chris Tanev, he alone will not turn the leafs around and more to the point he's a free agent at the end of the year, why not wait and just sign him in the summer. Sure there's a chance he may sign with somewhere else but I'd be ok with that, Tanev is a 34 year old defenseman who will turn 35 in December and with the pounding he has taken over the years one wonders just how much he has left in the tank.

I am still against using a prospect, 1st rounder, Knies or Woll. I really liked Zach Bogosian when he was with the Leafs and wished he had resigned. But he is older now, so no to him, and no to rentals.
I would be okay with Jake Middleton. I like his more physical game, hits and blocked shots. He is a good age, and the Leafs need a more physical player. I would be okay with a trade for him as long as he doesn't cost too much.
