Don't be surprised if Bryan McCabe is dealt before too long. With the retirement of Robert Svehla and the possible loss of Glen Wesley to free agency (he wants a three year guaranteed contract), Pat Quinn cannot afford to let his second best defenceman sit out another training camp. The Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes all appear to be potential destinations for yet another disgruntled Leaf defenceman.

It would be interesting to see what we could get for him, I like him a lot because he actually does hit, unlike the majority of our D. Do you figure a second rounder with a young kid thrown in CL?
Man I am starting to get tired of the tabloid feel to this off season, the scribes must be getting restless in Toronto, either that or they are turning over every rock down on the lakefront trying to sniff out a story.
I am seriously thinking about totally abandoning (sp?) the Leafs until draft day, because this is starting to wear me out what with all the rumours flying around as if it were the trade deadline........

Hard to say Rusty but depending upon what is involved, McCabe alone might fetch two decent prospects or a youngster already playing in the league and a mid to late first round pick.

Pat Quinn rarely gets a good return for any defenceman he trades away. This organization has seen quite a few defencemen, good ones at that, leaving over the years but with the exception of the Yushkevich-Svehla and McCabe-Karpovtsev(notice that those were 'D' for 'D' deals?) trade I don't recall any instance where the Toronto Maple Leafs have gotten decent compensation in return with Quinn as GM. No wonder our D is in bad shape.

CL and Rusty, if indeed we are stuck with GM/Coach Pat Quinn for another year, I don't see him getting good defensemen for McCabe. His history of Defensemen is to deal the Leafs good Defensemen away and get deadwood bums in their place. I think all 29 of the other GM's know Quinn's poor judgment and pawn their garbage off on him knowing Pat will jump at the chance to get their garbage players.

I want to tell you Pam, you and BigM#27 aren't making my day so far. I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee yet and I am already depressed. (Tired. Slept in. The neighbours had a party. I wasn't one of the guests. Just one of the annoyed).

Next question on the defence poll:How many games will Lumme skate 30+ min.??

Don't you mean play OM? Lumme hasn't been able to skate for almost a decade now. Come to think of it, you can't call what he does playing either.

It could be worse you could be a Sens fan and have nothing to look forward to except a team at or near the top every year with a chance at the Cup, great young player's coming in every year, player's like Todd White instead of Robert Reichel, Juki Lumme instead of young Volchenkov. Any body can do it the way Ottawa does with scouts and management but what fun is that we spend 60 million on has beens but give a Leaf fan a Name and he's happy even if he is ten years past his prime.

Please don't talk to me about Sens fans. I have to see those happy little "Go Sens Go" flags flapping from the radio antenna of every second passing car. The only thing that I can think of that would be more aggravating than that is having Greg Millen as a relative.
