In early March they were talking about a possible new outbreak his winter. Even before the CDC or WHO mentioned it , it was something I thought was a possibility again next next winter. This morning there is finally an article. www.kgw.com/article/news/health/coronavirus/cdc-discusses-second-wave-of-coronavirus/507-72b2eae7-205b-4594-831c-d597b05f455dCDC director warns there could be second, possible worse coronavirus wave this winterDr. Robert Redfield said a second wave of the coronavirus could be worse if it coincides with flu season.Author: TEGNA, Associated Press Published: 2:47 AM PDT April 22, 2020 Updated: 2:47 AM PDT April 22, 2020 WASHINGTON — The director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that Americans should be prepared for a second wave of the coronavirus in the winter. On Tuesday, Dr. Robert Redfield told the Washington Post that the United States could see a flu epidemic and coronavirus epidemic at the same time, which could be more dire. He claimed two respiratory outbreaks would strain the country's healthcare system. He says it is crucial that the country takes steps to improve its testing capacity in order for health workers to identify cases early, conduct contact tracing and isolate potentially infected individuals. Redfield in an interview on ABC's Good Morning America on April 15 said, "We're going to have another battle with it upfront and aggressively next winter." "I call it block and tackle," he said during his GMA interview. "The outbreak this year got ahead of that, so we went into full mitigation and we lost the ability to use critical public health tools. We are working hard to augment them now so that, as we get into the next season, we'll be able to stay in high containment mode while we complement that with some continued mitigation strategies." Redfield thanked the American people in both interviews for their efforts to follow stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures. He said following those guidelines can help prevent new cases from becoming larger outbreaks. For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. As of April 22, the first wave has killed more than 45,000 people across the country.

Your President says it won’t be a big deal. The next wave might be even worse. The old world I’m afraid is never coming back.

From the very beginning he hasn't taken it seriously. I truly hope the majority of people in the U.S. vote for someone else in November. Just like I did in 2016 I will be voting for the other Candidate.

Maybe he should try it out first to see if it works.

Not sure who is more dangerous. Montey burns south of the border who is so obviously insane that he has become comic relief, or the school teacher north of the border, who some people actually still trust, handing out cerb cheques on a promise to figure out if you qualify next year. There is no doubt Trudeau's heart is in the right place. I really just wish we had someone a little smarter running things up here right now. I've heard stories of people on welfare collecting cerb and welfare at the same time. They know their welfare cheques can't be garnished so they don;t care if the government figures it out next year and tells them to pay to back. Meanwhile there are people who could use the money, who are afraid to collect, because they can;t figure out if they qualify and fear the repercussions next year. Maybe Trudeau could hand the government over to Paul Martin or some other old liberal leader for a few months, just so he doesn't completely break us. At least our premiers all seem to be stepping up and making some good decisions.

As of 8am this morning Oregon has 2,253 positive cases with 87 deaths. Tillamook county has 6 positive cases. 5 and 6 were a couple of days apart a week ago, no deaths.
Oregon, Washington and California Governors have been collaborating on opening the States up. Would be handled according to their individual situations. For Oregon, there has to be a marked decrease in cases and deaths before it is looked into, along with enough PPE for healthcare workers and hospitals able to handle any new cases after open up begins. This probably won't even be looked at as a possibility until the end of May.
It feels like it will go on for a long while. When open up starts, it will probably start with the counties without any cases (6) and slowly work from there. People with compromised health will still need to follow the stay at home.

Agreed bwf. I slag Pumpkin Head a lot but Trudope is just about as dangerous in a different way. Canada will never climb out of the monetary hole he has put us in but all other countries are in the same boat. In a crisis like this they will be lots of people taking advantage of the handouts...that will never change. I just hope when the dust settles they catch the people that abuse the system. Governments are scrambling trying to figure this out. The countries with strong leadership will lead the way in returning to normal. I'm afraid Canada and the US lack true leadership.

Over 400 000 people in my area, no infections, no deaths. More people have died from the lockdown than from the virus, sadly. One was one of my students, he needed social contact, needed exercise, but being cooped up alone for 3 weeks was too much for his system. Still miss the guy.

I'm sorry to hear about your student. I'm glad to hear it didn't hit your area.
Most of Oregon opened up on May 15th, 31 of the 36 counties, for Phase 1 of the opening. 2 counties requests were turned down because they didn't meet Phase 1 requirements. As of 2 days ago those 2 counties met Phase 1 so they opened up. Washington county and Multnomah are still closed. They are the 2 largest counties with most cases and deaths. Washington county may request Phase 1 opening for June 1st. Multnomah county still hasn't requested an open date. Hillsboro, where I go, is in Washington county. A maximum of 25 people for crowd gatherings.

Tillamook County announced a 7th case of Covid-19 on June 24. We held steady at 6 cases in my county for 2 months. In 29 counties we still are encouraged to wear masks in phase 2 even if we don't have a health problem, but 7 counties have a mandatory requirement to wear masks effective today. I'm still wearing one.
Multnomah county, the most densely populated county, was scheduled to reopen on phase 1 June 12th and 4 other counties to reopen on phase 2, but there were so many new cases that week (close to 80 a day for 4 days) that the Governor put it on hold and didn't let them reopen until this past Friday (6/19). Tillamook county reopened to Phase 2 on June 8th, 2 days before the Governor put the reopenings on hold.
Currently, Oregon has 7,185 positive cases, and 259 presumptive cases (Presumptive cases are those without a positive diagnostic test who present COVID-19-like symptoms and had close contact with a confirmed case). Who knows how long this will last in the U.S., thanks to my idiot President not doing his job in a timely manner.

To me the important number is active cases. I know the media likes to spew about total cases for shock value but that is somewhat irrelevant because if you get infected and recover you aren't contagious.
Here in Ontario we have slightly over 2000 active cases. Following the trends it would seem that typical resolution (nice way of saying you either recover or die) is 10-14 days. The death rate in Ontario is averaging around 8% however apparently 80% of deaths have been from long term care homes so the real death rate among the general population is around 2%. We have been are averaging ~200 cases a day here so we will flatline somewhere around the current 2000 active cases as daily resolution matches daily new cases, until the number of new cases per day starts to fall again.
Where I am staying at my cottage we had a long run of zero active cases until a few days ago, when someone picked up Covid "Community Acquired" which basically means she probably drove downtown Toronto somewhere and got infected. So now we have to be careful for the next few weeks to make sure she hasn't spread it around the local community. I have recently gone back in the office a few days a week, and so am also traveling to Toronto again.

So Trump says that he looks like the Lone Ranger with a mask on and he kinda likes it. If he looks like the Lone Ranger, he clearly has it on wrong.
Canada Day in Wasaga Beach and Niagara Falls was being called Florida north with the number of people that were present and the lack of social distancing procedures or masks.

Apparently the are now closing Wasaga's main beach for the rest of the summer due to the public's lack of self discipline.
