I'm hoping with the last couple of days off they have gotten their sh*t together. Only time will tell.

I'm hoping with the last couple of days off they have gotten their sh*t together. Only time will tell. I don’t know what it is but this team cannot get their sh*t together and play a full 60 minutes. Is it Keefe, the Core 4, others? I give up guessing but it sure is disappointing.

I don't think anyone of us expect his team to play for 60 minutes or to play consistently from one game to the next. They haven't done it since the beginning with this group so don't keep asking.
It'll be a late night for me but i'll be up for a few reasons. I dont have to work the next day and if I went to bed id just be checking my phone whenever I woke up anyway. Plus, its a good distraction for other things in life. If I find myself dozing off ill hit the record button.

But I will record it and if it’s worthwhile I’ll watch it tomorrow.

I’ll watch but they’re really bumming me out. We can say it’s Keefe, we can say it’s Shanny but at the end of the day it’s about having pride in the way you play, the ability to outwork the opponent over 200’ of ice regardless if you think the coach’s strategy isn’t right. These guys try every night but I don’t know if it’s a leadership issue or just brain farts that lead to killer GA or just a selfish attitude but the way they try isn’t good enough. Blame Dubas and the cap jam, that’s convenient but it won’t solve sh*t. To me it’s a team problem that only the team can solve.

I agree it’s a team problem TMan but when the hell is someone going to step up and change things? It hasn’t happened year after year.

I wish I knew the answer. Blame can be placed in a lot of areas. I don’t believe Keefe is the biggest problem. His record is pretty da*n good but he will be the first change if the skid continues. As much as I’d like to see a playoff run a lot of problems could be solved by dumping assets at the deadline and start anew again.

I would love to see the leafs dump some of their overprice assests. Though I can't see this happening, not with brendan shanahan in charge. He got to much riding on this dammed Shanaplan to start moving assets.

He got to much riding on this dammed Shanaplan to start moving assets. I was done with the Shanaplan and Dubas after the Leafs lost to Montreal in the first round during the covid season. Montreal just barely made the playoffs and that defeat told me all I needed to know about the character and toughness of this team. I think maybe it's time to accept the defense is so bad it's affecting all aspects of Toronto's game, including the forwards and goalkeepers. When you have a bunch of D-men who can't move the puck up effectively it's going to slow down the offense. These guys are constantly trapped in their own end. It's not about focus, it's about a lack of talent. When the playoff races start in earnest by the middle of January, I think the D will be exposed even more. I hate the idea of trading Nylander to be honest and I dislike the idea of trading draft picks trying to save the season, which is a lost cause I think. Maybe it's better to wait for Tavares and Marners contract to end and let them go. I don't think either will accept a trade. At least that should ease the cap issues enough to build a real defense. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Well said jayleaf. Losing to Montreal (spit) after leading 3 games to 1...and prob ahead in G5...should have brought on massive changes but mgmt is all about being passive and hoping for better 'next time round' even as we approach a decade of nothing. Hows that workin' for ya Shanny?
They wont move Willie bc that takes guts and will most definitely overpay for Marner bc thats what we do but the real crunch will be next summer. Signing Nylander to prob. $10M with JT will still be on the books for another year will make this year's cap crunch look like Disneyland. You know its gonna happen.

When Detroit drafted Yzerman and other top forwards it took them over a decade to win the Cup. Pittsburgh won fast after they drafted their stars, Chicago about the same, Colorado in 2022 a few years but less than 10 after they got their top players. Of course, Colorado drafted Makar and Byram, and we stopped trying to draft a top defenceman after 2016, they didn't.

You’re 100% right jayleaf losing to Montreal should have been a red flag to the Leafs management that this team was missing something, a key ingredient namely heart and desire and changes were needed. Instead this team was sent the message that failure is ok and we will pacify the hard core leaf fan base with some contrite BS. Something like we believe in our core and we’re going to run the group out there again.

But Pitt and Detroit was also pre-cap when keeping and trading for players was only a matter of coming to an agreement. As for the Avs they certainly got a few keepers but the draft is often a crap shoot rt?
